About sixty miles southeast of Seattle, Mt. Rainier is the highest mountain in Washington State and is also an active volcano. On clear days, the silhouette of Rainier is a striking backdrop to the Seattle skyline, though its distance from the city washes the peak in the sky’s bright blue. While exploring the region in the 1790s, George Vancouver named the mountain in honor of Britain’s Rear Admiral Peter Rainier.

I have a collection of Pilot Iroshizuku, Diamine and Robert Oster inks and this Rainier Blue, along with Elliott Bay and Deception Pass are the most lubricated inks in my collection. It makes my Pilot 912 SF nib feel as smooth as my Pelikan 800 Fine, and I can’t get my Magna Carta MAG 650 to railroad no matter how hard and fast I write. By the way, the ebonite feed on said MAG 650 is STAINED MAGENTA. Enough with this “modest” stuff, Rainier Blue is a sheening MONSTER. It appears as a darker blue version of Robert Oster’s Fire and Ice, but with WAY more “fire”. On 52gsm Tomoe River the ratio of magenta to blue is almost 50/50 on the MC depending on the viewing angle, and I get noticeable sheening even on the Pilot SF. No bleed through on the TR paper, even with FAT lines from the Magna Carta. This may be helped by the lubrication that keeps the dagger of a nib on the MC from scraping into the paper like some of my other inks.

Ranier Blue is simply lovely. It’s well lubricated without being gloopy and behaves very nicely in my cheap notebooks. Currently my third favorite ink (amongst my 85 or so bottles). Nice job Matthew👍

With such a classic name I had to use a classic pen to enjoy the 4th ink I ordered from the Wet Pen. I filled up a Parker Vacumatic with Rainer Blue and am very happy with the results. It is a smooth gentle blue-green flow as I write. The Wet Pen is such an ink connoisseur that I feel no qualms in loading this in my vintage pens. My nib is a EF so I don’t have the sheening effect but am very happy using this for a signature or journaling. Strongly suggest this fine ink.
